and then time stopped....

you know how music creates an image in the head which is like a movie… a perfect movie that ends when the song ends and can not be replicated ?  i discovered the sound of the ocean has the same creative energy.
just a week ago i was in South Goa with my cousin sister. our hotel had a private beach… at night after all the traveling we decided to relax on the beach. it was dark. really dark.. there was only one light there which was completely out of place to be honest.  a horizontal stretch of coconut trees, twisting and bending in all possible ways stood in between us and the sand.  their silhouette against the India ink colored sky was brave. they feared nothing. even darkness did not intimidate them. even the bass in the song of the ocean wasn’t deep enough for them.  it was for us. we were a little reluctant but that awkward light helped us to keep walking towards the soft sandy bed.  the guard lit his torch and showed us the way…  he left us alone under that light that stood morbidly alone against the darkness… he asked us not to enter the ocean… we weren’t going to anyway… it was a very intimidating beach… not a single soul in the vicinity.
the sound of the waves was like music playing with everything else on pause.  all other sounds were on mute. the black waves were the only audible inhabitants of the space. even though it was a little scary we dint feel threatened… i began to enjoy the sights and sound. near the horizon i could see a light or two… the fishermen were busy somewhere far, boats anchored and nets spread in the black water.  what were their sights and sounds i wondered? was it beautiful to float in the middle of nowhere upon a water body which is so moody and so mysteriously deep ?? i kept gazing at the lights that twinkled like stars in the horizon.
at one point my thoughts were so loud and so clear i thought they were audible to everyone… the sand, the trees, the ocean, the sky, my sister… everyone… it was that moment which breaks your heart with overwhelming emotions. it is that confounding moment when you dont understand how can you possibly store so much love in your heart.. that moment when you dont know how to express your happiness..you newly found bliss… your encounter with eternal peace that is the building blocks of nature….. and you feel your heart breaking…and your throat getting heavy…and a tsunami rising within you ready to burst out of your eyes….  you realize you and the wilderness belong together, made of pure love… the separation has caused the distress and the chaos…
i could listen to the poetry that engulfed the dark canvas in front of my eyes forever. i could stare at the distant lights in the ocean forever.  i could stay in this moment forever.  perhaps this is what they mean when they say “and then time stopped”…. time indeed stops by these little things that mean so big.  these little things like gazing at the distant lights, under a heavy dark sky with the song of the ocean playing in the backdrop… no words can describe that magical bond that you can find in enlightening silence that the nature’s song is…
as i walk past the chaos and all the city noise i allow my mind to wander in that frozen moment…and just for a second time stops and im back in the darkness where ther’s one guiding light and nothing else.
